#1 – Carmel Greyhounds

Brownsburg Regional #1

State meet history: 45 appearances (last in 2025), 40 podium finishes (last in 2025), 9 runner-up titles (1981, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2009, 2021), 21 state championships (1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020, 2024, 2025)

2025 Results:

North Central (Indy) Sectional: 1st place (25 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 1st place (53 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 1st place (100 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Annabel Pollert (12) - 17:31 (3rd place)

Larkin Taylor (12) - 17:55 (8th place)

Margo Halle (11) - 17:58 (12th place)

2026 Outlook: The Greyhounds are on an all-time heater, having won the state championship in cross country and track & field the last two school years. As good as the returning teams are for Concordia and Lake Central, our committee (of one) knows that you never walk away from a heater. Carmel returns just three, but seniors Annabel Pollert and Larkin Taylor rank among the all-time great runners with Pollert 12th in the 1600 and 21st in the 3200 while Taylor is 17th in the 1600. Both have shown a knack for racing well at the state finals. In addition to that duo, junior Margo Halle has twice finished in the top 40 at the state cross country meet. The ‘Hounds have six ranked in inccstats’ top 100 individuals so the depth is there for a three-peat, though realistically Carmel will need some contributions from its freshman class to take home the title again.

#2 – Fort Wayne Concordia Cadets

Manchester Regional #1

State meet history: 18 appearances (last in 2025), 5 podium finishes (last in 2025), 3 runner-up titles (2023, 2024, 2025), 1 state championship (1983)

2025 Results:

New Haven Sectional: 2nd place (33 points)

New Haven Regional: 1st place (49 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 2nd place (129 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Daphne Weller (11) - 17:41 (1st place)

Leighton Archer (10) - 18:16 (5th place)

Luci Hogue (10) - 18:48 (14th place)

Brylee Crass (12) - 19:26 (24th place)

Maddie Gentz (12) - 19:37 (33rd place)

2026 Outlook: The Cadets are up to three consecutive state meets with a runner-up finish, two of which were in heartbreaking fashion. Concordia returns a lineup perhaps worthy of a number-one ranking, and our committee (of one) certainly had the Cadets there at points in the creation of this countdown. Junior Daphne Weller, fifth at state last year and eighth as a freshman in 2024, could contend for the individual title; at a minimum she has proven herself to be a tough competitor in Terre Haute. Sophomore Leighton Archer and senior Brylee Crass are two potential, if not probable, All-Staters. Preseason projections show these top two teams as dead even. Given that, we will default to the team that has won the last couple of seasons, but it is incredibly close.

#3 – Lake Central Indians

New Prairie Regional #1

State meet history: 19 appearances (last in 2025), 3 podium finishes (last in 2024), 2 runner-up titles (2007, 2008)

2025 Results:

Highland Sectional:1st place (17 points)

New Prairie Regional: 1st place (60 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 13th place (356 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Macey Thompson (12) - 17:25 (1st place)

Chloe Neal (12) - 18:40 (6th place)

Lana Bruggeman (11) - 18:49 (7th place)

Aubrey Neal (11) - 19:30 (22nd place)

Sara Filippo (10) - 19:35 (27th place)

Anna Brumm (11) - 20:57 (86th place)

Roxann Martinez (11) - 22:13 (151st place)

2026 Outlook: Lake Central is a very interesting team entering this season. LC was third in the state meet with a lineup of almost exclusively frosh/soph lineup in 2024 then had high hopes before a disappointing 13th-place finish last year. Still, with seven back, including three who have finished All-State. Senior Macey Thompson, runner-up last year, is the top returner so LC should be scoring four every meet. Junior Lana Bruggeman ran 4:57 and 10:33 this spring and looks like a shoo-in for a third All-State finish. On paper, this is a team capable of challenging for the title. While LC does not have the pedigree of our top two teams, a reported strong incoming freshman class could set this group over the top.

#4 – Fort Wayne Homestead Spartans

Manchester Regional #2

State meet history: 25 appearances (last in 2025), 5 podium finishes (last in 2025), 1 state championship (2023)

2025 Results:

New Haven Sectional: 1st place (31 points)

New Haven Regional: 2nd place (62 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 4th place (172 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Clare Lebrija (11) - 18:12 (4th place)

Kaitlynn Hansen (12) - 19:12 (16th place)

Lindsey Arnold (12) - 19:32 (31st place)

Ella Antibus (12) - 19:43 (38th place)

Kylie Kotkamp (11) - 20:53 (82nd place)

2026 Outlook: The Spartans have earned a podium spot the last four years, including the title in 2023. That podium streak looks likely to continue, and there is an outside chance that Homestead could win its second state championship in school history this fall. Junior Clare Lebrija, a move-in more than a year ago, finished 17th at the state meet. In addition to her, the Spartans could have another newcomer finish in the top 25 with this incoming freshman class. While the track season might have been underwhelming in comparison to other teams around this ranking, Homestead has a history of overperforming in the fall.

#5 – Westfield Shamrocks

Franklin Regional #1

State meet history: 18 appearances (last in 2025), 6 podium finishes (last in 2008), 1 runner-up title (2004), 4 state championships (1998, 2005, 2006, 2007)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 1st place (62 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 1st place (75 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 9th place (264 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Alivia Lozier (12) - 17:47 (3rd place)

Jenna Burns (10) - 18:45 (14th place)

Mackenna Condon (11) - 19:02 (21st place)

Emma Pitney (10) - 19:11 (28th place)

Ella Bozarth (12) - 19:35 (42nd place)

2026 Outlook: The Shamrocks return five of seven, a lineup that looks capable of making a podium push. Senior Alivia Lozier has been All-State in each of the past two years, though she was absent from track results this past spring. Sophomore Jenna Burns could be progressing toward an All-State level this fall after running 5:13 and 11:05 this spring while sophomore Emma Pitney (5:10 and 11:07) is also making big improvement. The ‘Rocks probably will not have a single-digit scorer at the state meet but could fend off the rest of the field with superior depth to earn medals.

#6 – Penn Kingsmen

New Prairie Regional #2

State meet history: 25 appearances (last in 2025), 7 podium finishes (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

New Prairie Sectional: 1st place (18 points)

New Prairie Regional: 2nd place (61 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 5th place (210 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Lila Van Hoveln (12) - 18:02 (4th place)

Shreya Nayee (11) - 18:13 (5th place)

Riley Holland (10) - 19:36 (28th place)

Cali Lederer (10) - 19:44 (30th place)

Sami Pentelow (11) - 20:04 (45th place)

2026 Outlook: The Kingsmen ascended the podium last season and are looking for consecutive team medals for the first time since the 80s. The frontrunning duo of senior Lila Van Hoveln and junior Shreya Nayee–8th and 11th at last fall’s state finals–get Penn off to a great start. Sophomores Riley Holland and Cali Lederer should be solid contributors once again, and the Kingsmen will need good progress from them to maintain last year’s level. A talented newcomer or two would further solidify Penn’s status among podium contenders.

#7 – Floyd Central Highlanders

Crawford County Regional #1

State meet history: 20 appearances (last in 2025), 7 podium finishes (last in 1992), 1 runner-up title (1987), 4 state championships (1989, 1990, 1991, 1992)

2025 Results:

Crawford County Sectional: 1st place (16 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 2nd place (80 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 7th place (260 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Noel Nifong (11) - 18:11 (7th place)

Adeline Shultz (12) - 18:40 (9th place)

Isabella Milliner (11) - 18:51 (13th place)

Emma Campbell (12) - 19:13 (21st place)

Olivia Hopf (10) - 20:02 (47th place)

Jenna Wheatley (12) - 20:10 (52nd place)

Kara Walter (12) - 20:11 (53rd place)

2026 Outlook: The Highlanders bring all seven back from a team that finished seventh at the state meet. Floyd has a trio of returners all capable of finishing All-State. That would certainly be enough to keep the ‘Landers in podium contention, and the depth might be up to the challenge as well. Emma Campbell (2:21 and 5:27), Kara Walter (5:33) and Olivia Hopf (11:51) all should contribute at various points in the season. Floyd enters the season looking like the best team in the south, alongside Columbus North, and could have a good chance at the podium with a strong October similar to last season.

#8 – Zionsville Eagles

Brownsburg Regional #2

State meet history: 12 appearances (last in 2025), 6 podium finishes (last in 2019), 2 runner-up titles (2018, 2019), 1 state championship (2017)

2025 Results:

North Central (Indy) Sectional: 2nd place (68 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 2nd place (109 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 6th place (238 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Letty Banwart (11) - 18:29 (19th place)

Megan Race (12) - 18:59 (34th place)

2026 Outlook: The Eagles do not return a ton based on just regional results, but our committee (of one) knows that races are not run on paper or in spreadsheets. This is absolutely a podium contender. Junior Letty Banwart (5:02 and 11:02 in track) will be more than adequate as the team’s top returner. Senior Megan Race (5:16 and 11:39) enjoyed a good spring as well and has competed in three state cross country meets. Zionsville should also get in a huge influx of freshmen ready to contribute, and the Eagles have 24 individuals on inccstats’ preseason rankings, second only to Carmel’s 27 runners. Considering all of those factors, Zionsville’s rebuilding period should be very quick.

#9 – Fishers Tigers

Franklin Regional #2

State meet history: 8 appearances (last in 2025), 1 podium finish (2019)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 2nd place (68 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 2nd place (105 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 10th place (273 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Caitlin Hawkins (11) - 18:03 (4th place)

Riley Teruman (10) - 19:09 (26th place)

Lilah Gunn (10) - 19:26 (36th place)

Kylie Lengner (12) - 19:41 (46th place)

Mia Quagliaroli (11) - 20:10 (73rd place)

2026 Outlook: The Tigers have rocketed to among the state’s best teams, going from out of the sectional to a top-ten finish at the state finals in just two years. That progression looks to continue this fall. Junior Caitlin Hawkins–16th at the state meet in cross country and 10:45 over 3200 meters on the track–gets Fishers off to the start it needs to challenge for the top five. Lilah Gunn (5:32 and 11:36) showed good progress in the spring and junior Mia Quagliaroli (5:17 and 11:13) has been a solid contributor since entering high school.

#10 – Avon Orioles

Brownsburg Regional #3

State meet history: 7 appearances (last in 2025), 2 podium finishes (last in 2014), 1 runner-up title (2014)

2025 Results:

Ben Davis Sectional: 1st place (45 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 4th place (150 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 14th place (376 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Alena Wigger (10) - 17:48 (6th place)

Ella Staton (12) - 18:21 (16th place)

Alyson Connors (10) - 18:40 (21st place)

Lily Hwang (11) - 19:23 (49th place)

Olivia Haberman (12) - 19:57 (72nd place)

Ava Liilpop (12) - 20:21 (93rd place)

Miranda Searle (10) - 20:36 (104th place)

2026 Outlook: The Orioles snapped a three-year state meet hiatus and look primed to go on a run here after returning their entire lineup. Sophomore Alena Wigger immediately stepped in as a frontrunner and nearly finished All-State last fall while senior Ella Staton is among the top 25 returners from the state meet also. Two All-Staters and solid depth is the outline of a potential podium team, an eventuality that Avon could reasonably strive for this fall. Based strictly on track results from returners, the Orioles might be one of the top five teams. Senior Olivia Haberman ran 5:15 for 1600 meters and should be able to play a bigger role in cross country.

#11 – Columbus North Bull Dogs

Crawford County Regional #2

State meet history: 41 appearances (last in 2025), 21 podium finishes (last in 2022), 4 runner-up titles (1986, 2010, 2011, 2022), 2 state championships (2009, 2021)

2025 Results:

Brown County Sectional: 1st place (38 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 3rd place (96 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 12th place (329 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Emma Lowther (12) - 18:55 (14th place)

Kodi Smith (11) - 19:12 (20th place)

Tristan Works (12) - 19:19 (23rd place)

Sydney Madden (10) - 19:19 (24th place)

Adira Sluder (12) - 19:38 (33rd place)

Hazel Sasse (11) - 20:25 (60th place)

2026 Outlook: The Bull Dogs return their top six from last year’s 12th-place state meet team and could be much improved this fall. North might have one of the deeper teams in the state with 17 individuals on inccstats’ preseason rankings, but the lack of a true frontrunner may be holding the Dogs back from making a push for the podium. Perhaps one of the plethora of returners will make a leap in performance, however, or North’s depth will be too much for five teams to overcome at the state meet. The Dogs had an excellent spring season in track, which bodes well for this fall.

#12 – Hamilton Heights Huskies

Franklin Regional #3

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 6th place (136 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Noblesville Sectional)

Allie Bushey (12) - 18:42 (4th place)

Lillian Higgins (10) - 20:35 (33rd place)

Amira Leer (12) - 20:57 (39th place)

Matilda Higgins (10) - 21:11 (40th place)

Ayla Madara (12) - 21:12 (41st place)

Selah Heuer (11) - 23:00 (50th place)

2026 Outlook: The Huskies were the best team out in the sectional round last year, by a lot. With six eligible to return, Heights could theoretically turn things around quickly for a deep tournament run, but a lot of uncertainty exists entering the season about this group.

#13 – Columbia City Eagles

Manchester Regional #3

State meet history: 7 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Manchester Sectional: 1st place (34 points)

New Haven Regional: 5th place (147 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 20th place (473 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Kenya Leitch (12) - 17:50 (2nd place)

Riley Myers (11) - 19:27 (27th place)

Madelyn Shively (11) - 19:50 (41st place)

Lillian Ralston (11) - 19:57 (45th place)

Lorin Stoddard (12) - 20:44 (73rd place)

Annalise Swonger (12) - 21:32 (114th place)

2026 Outlook: The Eagles bring back six of seven from last year’s group that made the state finals for a second, and this season’s team will be looking for the first three-peat of appearances in school history. Based on preseason projections, that is nearly a lock. Senior Kenya Leitch has been All-State the past two seasons in cross country and has thrived on the track as well since entering high school. The trio of juniors Riley Myers, Madelyn Shively and Lillian Ralston give Columbia City a solid supporting cast, and the Eagles have enough candidates on the roster to end scoring and make a third consecutive trip to Terre Haute as a team.

#14 – Noblesville Millers

Franklin Regional #4

State meet history: 16 appearances (last in 2025), 6 podium finishes (last in 2024), 1 state championship (2022)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 3rd place (70 points)

Shelbyville Regional:3rd place (149 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 19th place (449 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Jayde Stamm (12) - 18:59 (20th place)

Kate Mumaw (12) - 19:28 (37th place)

Nelani Render (10) - 19:34 (41st place)

Izzy Salinas (11) - 19:38 (45th place)

Addy Scott (12) - 20:04 (70th place)

2026 Outlook: The Millers have finished on the podium three of the last five years, though last fall was a bit of a rebuilding season. Noblesville returns a solid team, five of the season who ran at state, which should put the Millers in good shape to qualify for a ninth consecutive state meet to Terre Haute. Senior Jayde Stamm, who has run well in the last two state cross country finals, gets Noblesville off to a good start, and senior Kate Mumaw could see a jump in performance after a great track season. The Millers have an incredibly difficult path to Terre Haute this season, though.

#15 – Bloomington South Panthers

Crawford County Regional #3

State meet history: 27 appearances (last in 2025), 1 podium finish (2025)

2025 Results:

Bedford North Lawrence Sectional: 1st place (19 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 1st place (43 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 3rd place (150 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Lexi Kollbaum (12) - 17:32 (1st place)

Mary Asplund (12) - 18:47 (11th place)

Brooklyn Vogel (10) - 19:49 (40th place)

2026 Outlook: The Panthers had their best season ever and bring back four of those that competed in the state finals, including senior Lexi Kollbaum who was 15th at last year’s state cross country meet. Kollbaum helps South to score four in nearly every meet, and classmate Mary Asplund should be a frontrunner as well. In addition to the three listed returners from the regional, junior Julia Polit has run in the state finals the past two years. South will have a new coach after Jill Rensink stepped down.

#16 – Franklin Central Flashes

Franklin Regional #5

State meet history: 14 appearances (last in 2025), 5 podium finishes (last in 2023)

2025 Results:

Mt. Vernon Sectional: 1st place (31 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 5th place (166 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 17th place (431 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Makenna Bowling (11) - 18:54 (17th place)

Natalie Vandesteene (11) - 18:56 (18th place)

Addison Weatherford (11) - 19:56 (60th place)

McKenna VanVleet (11) - 21:06 (123rd place)

Reese Coffey (12) - 21:28 (141st place)

2026 Outlook: The Flashes bring back five from another state meet team, the school’s third in a row with a possible path toward four consecutive trips to Terre Haute this fall. This group not being a lock for the state meet illustrates the strength of the Franklin (formerly Shelbyville) Regional. Juniors Makenna Bowling and Natalie Vandesteene give FC solid frontrunning, both ran in the state track meet in the 4x8. Bowling ran 5:08 for 1600 meters in the spring and Vandesteene ran 5:15 for 1600 meters and 11:09 for 3200 meters. Sophomore Natalie Curtis, 5:31 in the 1600 meters in the spring, could jump into the scoring mix for the Flashes this fall.

#17 – Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers

Manchester Regional #4

State meet history: 23 appearances (last in 2025), 9 podium finishes (last in 2020), 4 runner-up titles (2015, 2016, 2017, 2020), 2 state championships (2018, 2019)

2025 Results:

West Noble Sectional: 1st place (31 points)

New Haven Regional: 3rd place (133 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 11th place (313 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Olivia Conlon (11) - 19:15 (20th place)

Cate Sunderlin (10) - 19:20 (22nd place)

Claire Lane (12) - 20:00 (48th place)

Mallory Fraser (10) - 20:17 (55th place)

Avery Gagnon (10) - 20:19 (57th place)

2026 Outlook: The Chargers are on an incredible state meet streak, currently at 22 seasons. With five of seven back from an 11th-place team last year plus at least one incoming freshman ready to contribute immediately, extending that run seems highly probable this fall. This is a very young team after running three freshmen in last year’s state meet team, and reinforcements from the middle school level should trickle up over the next couple of years. Sophomore Harshini Rakesh (5:22 and 11:33) didn’t race in the state meet last year but could be a very valuable contributor this fall.

#18 – Whiteland Warriors

Franklin Regional #6

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Shelbyville Sectional: 3rd place (108 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 10th place (283 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Lena Shepp (12) - 18:43 (10th place)

Gabrielle Goedeker (10) - 18:43 (11th place)

Claire Proctor (11) - 20:17 (82nd place)

Eden Muhlhauser (12) - 20:18 (86th place)

Rozlin Tomamichel (12) - 22:19 (168th place)

Lillian Boner (11) - 22:19 (169th place)

Alaina Roll (12) - 22:24 (173rd place)

2026 Outlook: Whiteland might be the school most likely to qualify for its first-ever state finals. The frontrunning duo of Lena Chepp and Gabrielle Goedeker gets the Warriors off to a great start; both qualified for the state meet individually in cross country and track. Senior Eden Muhlhauser ran 5:36 and 12:03 which point to her being a solid contributor. The Warriors also bring in one of the state’s top freshman, which could give Whiteland one of the best trios in the state, which could help spring this group to the state meet for the first time ever.

#19 – Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles

Franklin Regional #7

State meet history: 4 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 5th place (110 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 4th place (153 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 18th place (438 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Noblesville Sectional)

Chloe Tragesser (10) - 18:29 (7th place)

Brinna Wolf (12) - 19:32 (40th place)

Claire Flannagan (12) - 19:38 (44th place)

Jillian Tichenor (10) - 19:42 (49th place)

Taylor Tragesser (11) - 20:13 (76th place

2026 Outlook: The Golden Eagles went from out in the sectional to the state finals with a great chance to repeat the trip. With five of seven back, Guerin has a great chance of returning to Terre Haute, even through the tournament’s most treacherous path. Sophomore Chloe Tragesser should provide frontrunning for the second year in a row after a strong spring in which she ran on the team’s state finalist 4x8 and covered 1600 meters in 5:14. Our committee (of one) is monitoring a potential breakout season for sophomore Jillian Tichenor, who gave the Eagles very solid relay legs in the tournament and ran 5:21 for 1600 meters. With those two at the front of scoring, Guerin has everything it needs to make a remarkable fourth state meet in five years.

#20 – Hamilton Southeastern Royals

Franklin Regional #8

State meet history: 13 appearances (last in 2024), 5 podium finishes (last in 2021), 1 runner-up title (2013)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 4th place (99 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 6th place (206 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Zoe Gebhart (12) - 18:28 (6th place)

Anissa Lammie (12) - 19:12 (30th place)

Ali Johnson (10) - 20:15 (78th place)

Kate Lux (11) - 20:21 (88th place)

2026 Outlook: The Royals very nearly made the state finals last fall after being decimated by graduation the year prior. It’s still an incredibly treacherous path, and there’s not even a guarantee that HSE will emerge from the sectional. This is a group with a lot of promise, though. Senior Zoe Gebhart enjoyed a breakout track season, running 4:59 for 1600 meters and 10:41 for 3200 meters, putting her amongst the top runners in the state. Senior Anissa Lammie, the 400 state champion, seemed to return to form last year after struggling by her standards as a sophomore. Junior Kate Lux (5:26 for 1600 meters) showed great progression in the track season as well.

#21 –Chatard Trojans

Brownsburg Regional #4

State meet history: 6 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

North Central (Indy) Sectional: 4th place (76 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 3rd place (113 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 8th place (260 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Grace Leppert (12) - 17:59 (13th place)

Erin Murphy (10) - 19:21 (48th place)

Genevieve Freeman (12) - 19:25 (51st place)

Maisie Chesebrough (12) - 19:47 (67th place)

Frannie Jackson (11) - 20:33 (101st place)

2026 Outlook: The Trojans lose some to graduation but return a team capable of qualifying for the state meet again. Senior Grace Leppert gets Chatard off to a great start in scoring; she was nearly All-State last cross country season then ran 2:16 for 800 meters and 5:10 for 1600 meters in the spring. Graduating an athlete as decorated as Julia Score, plus another sub-five 1600 runner in Ceci Jackson means Chatard will certainly take a step back this fall, but this is still a group capable of qualifying for a third consecutive state finals.

#22 – Valparaiso Vikings

New Prairie Regional #3

State meet history: 38 appearances (last in 2025), 13 podium finishes (last in 2023), 3 runner-up titles (2001, 2005, 2006), 5 state championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004)

2025 Results:

Chesterton Sectional: 2nd place (54 points)

New Prairie Regional: 3rd place (171 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 22nd place (489 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Whitney Anderson (12) - 19:42 (29th place)

Sydney Herb (10) - 20:02 (41st place)

Eavan Daly (12) - 20:05 (46th place)

Amber Johnson (12) - 20:09 (49th place)

2026 Outlook: The Vikings have weathered the storm of serious graduation hits over the last couple of years and appear to be in a great position to qualify for a 13th straight state finals this fall. Senior Whitney Anderson leads the charge for a fourth consecutive year; she helped the Vikes secure a state meet berth as a team by racing in the regional but did not compete at the state finals. Anderson has been All-State twice since entering high school and had a solid track season. Senior Eavan Daly should also play an important role in Valpo’s success; she ran 5:16 over 1600 meters and won that event at the sectional.

#23 – Morgan Township Cherokees

New Prairie Regional #4

State meet history: 4 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Chesterton Sectional: 1st place (46 points)

New Prairie Regional: 4th place (174 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 21st place (488 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Shae Bucher (12) - 19:23 (15th place)

McKenna Bucher (10) - 19:50 (36th place)

Clara Meints (10) - 20:08 (48th place)

Ella Buchko (11) - 20:16 (53rd place)

2026 Outlook: A school of just 256 students last year, the Cherokees have qualified for a remarkable four consecutive state finals. That streak doesn’t appear to be in serious jeopardy this season, and perhaps not any time soon. With just four back from last year’s team, Morgan does have a projected gap between the fourth and fifth runners that is very wide, but the Cherokees should be able to patch that up with a mix of incoming freshmen and solid improvement. Barring anything unforeseen, expect Morgan’s state meet streak to extend well beyond four.

#24 – North Central Panthers

Brownsburg Regional #5

State meet history: 21 appearances (last in 2024), 9 podium finishes (last in 2023)

2025 Results:

North Central (Indy) Sectional: 3rd place (75 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 6th place (158 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Aislinn Biesecker (11) - 18:41 (22nd place)

Ruby Brown (12) - 19:32 (56th place)

Valerie Fernhaber (12) - 19:41 (62nd place)

Isabella Ewer (11) - 21:20 (141st place)

2026 Outlook: The Panthers missed the state meet after five straight qualifications. NC is looking at more of an uphill climb to get back to Terre Haute after graduation of its top two runners and retirement of coach Chad Wallace. Junior Aislinn Biesecker should be a solid frontrunner on the regional level; she qualified individually for the state meet last fall. Though she didn’t appear in cross country results last season, sophomore Kaia Coleman could be a big help after running 2:21 over 800 meters and 5:30 over 1600 meters this past spring. A solid presence from a newcomer like that could be the difference between qualifying for state or being done at the regional level again.

#25 – Munster Mustangs

New Prairie Regional #5

State meet history: 2 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Highland Sectional: 2nd place (61 points)

New Prairie Regional: 5th place (191 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 23rd place (492 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Lekha Patel (10) - 19:15 (12th place)

Sophia Puliaeva (11) - 20:13 (52nd place)

Riley Sechowski (11) - 20:28 (63rd place)

Ellis Choi (12) - 20:51 (80th place)

Olivia Anh (11) - 21:25 (114th place)

2026 Outlook: After ending a 17-year state meet drought, the Mustangs are looking to make back-to-back trips to Terre Haute as a team. Munster enters the season in a good position to do so. Based on last year’s line-up, the Mustangs have a bright future. Sophomore Lekha Patel was an instance success at the high school level last year, competing well in cross country and running 5:14 for 1600 meters and 11:18 for 3200 meters. Fellow sophomore Vivian Koncalovic running cross country would strengthen Munster’s state meet odds even further; she ran 5:30 over 1600 meters and finished second to Patel at that distance in the sectional.

#26 – Fort Wayne Dwenger Saints

Manchester Regional #5

State meet history: 3 appearances (last in 2018)

2025 Results:

New Haven Sectional: 3rd place (85 points)

New Haven Regional: 7th place (197 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Abigail Hasselschwert (10) - 19:30 (30th place)

Cassandra Osenga (11) - 19:38 (35th place)

Reagan Furnas (11) - 19:50 (42nd place)

Ella Beale (10) - 19:58 (46th place)

Elizabeth Veerkamp (12) - 20:20 (58th place)

Natalee Ade (11) - 20:33 (64th place)

Anja Miller (10) - 20:47 (75th place)

2026 Outlook: The Saints have all seven back from a group that was in the mix to qualify for Terre Haute and clearly stands a better chance this fall. This was a team that benefitted from incoming talent the last two years with three freshmen and three sophomores running in last year’s regional. Dwenger is a team without a true frontrunner or even clear number one, but it’s one of the deepest teams in the Manchester Regional. Perhaps sophomore Ella Beale will develop into the team’s top runner after a track season in which she ran 11:46 for 3200 meters.

#27 – Greenfield-Central Cougars

Franklin Regional #9

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Mt. Vernon Sectional: 3rd place (75 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 8th place (264 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Mia Brinkruff (10) - 18:44 (13th place)

Josie Kinnaman (12) - 19:07 (24th place)

Adalyn Cole (12) - 19:42 (50th place)

Kamryn Smith (11) - 21:25 (137th place)

Aspen Wiswell (11) - 22:44 (187th place)

2026 Outlook: The Cougars enjoy a great frontrunning duo in sophomore Mia Brinkruff and senior Josie Kinnaman, both of whom qualified individually for Terre Haute. Those two absolutely form the beginnings of a state meet team, even in the most challenging regional. Greenfield doesn’t have much depth but could feasibly get there this fall. Sophomore Alexis Kerkhof could help the Cougars dramatically; she didn’t run cross country last fall but did go 5:25 for the 1600 in the spring. Greenfield can also anticipate getting in one freshman that will help with scoring.

#28 – New Palestine Dragons

Franklin Regional #10

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Mt. Vernon Sectional: 2nd place (60 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 7th place (242 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Hailey Pardieck (11) - 18:46 (15th place)

Elena Daugherty (10) - 19:25 (35th place)

Adi Smith (10) - 20:11 (75th place)

Brynn Richey (10) - 20:23 (90th place)

Taylor Stone (12) - 21:38 (145th place)

2026 Outlook: The Dragons had a young team in the mix to advance to Terre Haute, and the returners should place New Pal in position to qualify for the first state meet in school history. Junior Hailey Pardieck earned double experience on the state level, qualifying in cross country and the 3200.  Sophomore Adi Smith ran 11:42 over 3200 in the spring and could see a big performance bump this fall. In any other regional, this would be a likely state meet team, and it is still possible the Dragons could advance.

#29 – Chesterton Trojans

New Prairie Regional #6

State meet history: 21 appearances (last in 2021), 8 podium finishes (last in 2021), 3 runner-up titles (1995, 1997, 2003)

2025 Results:

Chesterton Sectional: 3rd place (81 points)

New Prairie Regional: 6th place (192 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Paige Clancy (11) - 19:49 (34th place)

Hannah Haring (11) - 19:49 (35th place)

Natalie Williams (11) - 20:06 (47th place)

Natalie White (11) - 20:33 (71st place)

Natascha Lepinasse (12) - 20:42 (74th place)

2026 Outlook: The Trojans were one spot from the state meet and return a team capable of ending the current drought. Chesterton should have reason for optimism after a very stong track season. Juniors Paige Clancy and Natalie White both ran 5:16 for 1600 meters with White covering 3200 meters in 11:22. Sophomore Evie Fortney did not race in the tournament in the fall but ran 5:19 for the 1600. Those three combined with junior Hannah Haring could form a very formidable pack. If the Trojans can keep their spring momentum going into the fall, this should be a state meet team.

#30 – Crown Point Bulldogs

New Prairie Regional #7

State meet history: 16 appearances (last in 2022), 1 podium finish (2013)

2025 Results:

Highland Sectional: 3rd place (81 points)

Crown Point Regional: 11th place (328 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Mia Sargent (11) - 19:30 (21st place)

Genevieve St. Clair (11) - 20:26 (60th place)

Sophia Brezden (11) - 21:20 (101st place)

Everly Pycraft (12) - 21:36 (120th place)

Elizabeth Wartman (12) - 21:47 (133rd place)

2026 Outlook: The Bulldogs struggled through a very sub-par race at the regional after appearing to be in the mix to make the state meet for much of the season. CP projects to be in a similar spot this fall. Junior Mia Sargent qualified for the state meet individually last year and junior Sophia Brezden as well as senior Everly Pycraft accomplished that same feat the prior season. That trio did compete in the state track meet on the 4x8, and all three had successful spring seasons. Based on returners, the ‘Dogs have a strong chance to qualify for Terre Haute.

#31 – Brebeuf Jesuit Braves

Brownsburg Regional #6

State meet history: 5 appearances (last in 2024), 1 podium finish (2017)

2025 Results:

Ben Davis Sectional: 2nd place (50 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 7th place (185 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Isabel Garcia (12) - 17:57 (11th place)

Annemarie Klingler (10) - 19:20 (47th place)

Madeline Bohley (10) - 20:25 (95th place)

2026 Outlook: The Braves return a roster easily capable of qualifying for Terre Haute. Brebeuf has a legitimate frontrunner in senior Isabel Garcia who was 27th at last year’s state meet and then finished sixth in the state meet over 1600 meters in the spring. Sophomore Annemarie Klingler showed progress in the spring. The rest of the Braves’ lineup is a mystery, and without a true feeder system it’s much tougher to project who Brebeuf could be bringing in this school year. A good freshman class could push the Braves to Terre Haute.

#32 – Brownsburg Bulldogs

Brownsburg Regional #7

State meet history: 3 appearances (last in 2023)

2025 Results:

Ben Davis Sectional: 3rd place (65 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 8th place (268 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Kendra Harless (10) - 19:30 (55th place)

Chloe Curry (10) - 19:33 (57th place)

Alyson Ewing (11) - 20:01 (76th place)

Brinley Yoder (10) - 20:13 (89th place)

Tenley Collins (11) - 20:22 (94th place)

2026 Outlook: The Bulldogs have been in the mix to advance to the state meet from the regional held on their home course, but have only done so once in the last three years. Last year’s team ran three freshmen and two sophomores in the regional and continued progression could make Brownsburg a contender to qualify for Terre Haute. Brownsburg has all the tools to be a perennial state meet team, and developing its current sophomore and junior classes will be the key to becoming just that.

#33 – Harrison (WL) Raiders

Brownsburg Regional #8

State meet history: 4 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Harrison (West Lafayette) Sectional: 1st place (32 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 5th place (156 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 16th place (431 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Isabella Burgess (12) - 18:57 (32nd place)

Anna Felten (11) - 19:43 (65th place)

Sharon Schultz (10) - 20:00 (75th place)

Daria Lane (10) - 20:29 (97th place)

2026 Outlook: The Raiders have had their two best teams in school history the last two years, but they have been besieged by graduation and moving over the last two seasons. The numbers don’t have a very favorable opinion on Harrison’s chances for the third time in four years since the restructuring of the tournament that placed the Raiders on a much tougher path. Yet, Harrison is a well-coached group that had a great spring season and could have at least one frontrunner at the regional level. This isn’t a team that our committee (of one) is crossing off.

#34 – Kankakee Valley Kougars

New Prairie Regional #8

State meet history: 1 appearance (2008)

2025 Results:

Rensselaer Central Sectional: 1st place (20 points)

New Prairie Regional: 7th place (243 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Jenna Walker (11) - 17:36 (2nd place)

Krista Sytsma (12) - 18:01 (3rd place)

Scarlet Skowronski (10) - 21:19 (106th place)

Ainsley Summers (11) - 22:26 (164th place)

Aubree Bristol (10) - 23:16 (195th place)

Dakota Mulyk (10) - 23:42 (219th place)

2026 Outlook: The Kougars enjoy enviable frontrunning with junior Jenna Walker and senior Krista Sytsma; the duo finished fourth and 12th, respectively, at last year’s state finals which was the second best pair in the state behind Carmel. KV was in the mix last year, ultimately finishing seventh at the regional, but the Kougars do graduate a key scorer. It was a small roster (just 8 participants) but a young one in 2025. With a big jump or two in performance from the supporting cast, KV could be in the mix for Terre Haute.

#35 – Bloomington North Cougars

Crawford County Regional #4

State meet history: 33 appearances (last in 2025), 4 podium finishes (last in 2007), 1 runner-up title (1982)

2025 Results:

Bedford North Lawrence Sectional: 2nd place (62 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 4th place (166 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 25th place (633 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Lila Childers (12) - 19:09 (17th place)

Penny Eads (12) - 19:42 (36th place)

Piper Reed (11) - 20:45 (75th place)

Adelyn Walker (11) - 21:31 (97th place)

Lauren Thies (12) - 21:53 (120th place)

2026 Outlook: The Cougars seem a possible, if not likely, state meet team with five of last year’s seven returning from a team that qualified for Terre Haute. Seniors Lila Childers and Penny Eads are the likely top two for North; both qualified for the regional in track in their individual events, and the Cougars made it to state in the 4x8 relay as well. Sophomore Ana Lopez could help the Cougars’ depth after a solid freshman campaign on the grass that included running in the state meet. Senior Evie Peterson missed the tournament but was a pretty consistent scorer earlier in the season.

#36 - Heritage Christian Eagles

Brownsburg Regional #9

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

North Central (Indy) Sectional: 5th place (140 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 10th place (296 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Charley Wolfrum (10) - 18:32 (20th place)

Olivia Peterson (12) - 18:55 (29th place)

Ellery Hobson (11) - 20:04 (78th place)

Claire LaBar (11) - 20:31 (100th place)

Ella Tryon (12) - 21:04 (127th place)

Chloe Thear (12) - 22:15 (185th place)

Lydia Pulliam (10) - 23:12 (220th place)

2026 Outlook: The Eagles have an interesting team heading into this fall. Last year’s group was the best in school history, by far, and ended as a surprising tenth-place finish in a very competitive regional. All seven of those participants return, including two individual state meet qualifiers. They’re still a longshot to making it to Terre Haute, but Heritage Christian should get help from at least one incoming freshman. If the Eagles can have three frontrunners at the regional level, that could give them a shot to advance, though our committee (of one) projects this regional to be a bit more open than the preseason stats suggest.

#37 – Cathedral Fighting Irish

Franklin Regional #11

State meet history: 11 appearances (last in 2015), 2 podium finishes (last in 2015)

2025 Results:

Mt. Vernon (Fortville) Sectional: 4th place (82 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 13th place (317 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Lorelei Zenil (12) - 19:41 (47th place)

Adalyn Bolin (11) - 20:01 (66th place)

Addison Field (11) - 20:04 (69th place)

Claire Farrell (10) - 20:40 (101st place)

Olivia McDaniel (11) - 21:18 (131st place)

2026 Outlook: The Irish have a pretty young team with a lot of returners from last year. Cathedral should be able to advance from the sectional, but the regional might be the most competitive in the state. This doesn’t project as a team close to advancing, though Cathedral consistently fields one of the bigger teams in the state. The Irish had 47 participants last fall in a school of just 1100 students. Cathedral does project to be more competitive a year from now, but the regional will be just as tough then as well.

#38 – Warsaw Tigers

Manchester Regional #6

State meet history: 14 appearances (last in 2025)

2025 Results:

Manchester Sectional: 2nd place (45 points)

New Haven Regional: 4th place (137 points)

IHSAA State Finals: 15th place (388 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Dani Rastrelli (10) - 18:47 (13th place)

Savannah Purdy (12) - 20:43 (72nd place)

Katie Robertson (11) - 20:52 (78th place)

2026 Outlook: The Tigers are on a six-year state meet streak and could make it seven straight despite bringing back just three of last year’s seven. Sophomore Dani Rastrelli continues a long legacy of Warsaw frontrunners in her family, and the Tigers are one of the deeper teams in the regional with seven individuals ranked in inccstats’ preseason list. Senior Matilda Granger made great strides in the track season and should help with scoring.

#39 - Fairfield Falcons

New Prairie Regional #9

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Goshen Sectional: 2nd place (52 points)

New Prairie Regional: 10th place (273 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Layna Stoltzfus (10) - 19:20 (14th place)

Lyla Dennis (12) - 20:17 (54th place)

Lorelei Shirley (12) - 20:28 (64th place)

Julianna Hinkle (11) - 21:09 (99th place)

Macey Stutsman (10) - 23:21 (201st place)

Elliott Carl (10) - 23:54 (225th place)

2026 Outlook: The Falcons have never made the state finals, nor have they been particularly close as they are coming off the best season in school history. Six of those seven return, and sophomore Layna Stoltzfus has state meet experience after qualifying individually last fall. Realistically, Fairfield is one more solid scorer away from making a big push for the state finals. If the Falcons get that, this is absolutely a team that could challenge for a way out of New Prairie to Terre Haute.

#40 – Portage Indians

New Prairie Regional #10

State meet history: 21 appearances (last in 2023), 2 podium finishes (last in 1996), 1 runner-up title (1988)

2025 Results:

Chesterton Sectional: 4th place (109 points)

New Prairie Regional: 9th place (272 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Madilynn Fehlman (12) - 19:29 (20th place)

Kara Krapf (12) - 20:43 (75th place)

Aubrey Clouse (11) - 21:03 (94th place)

Arabella Sweeney (12) - 21:46 (130th place)

2026 Outlook: Portage projects at about the same level as last year’s teams with four of seven back, including senior frontrunner Madilynn Fehlman. Beyond her, junior Aubrey Clouse was competitive in the track season. Certainly, Portage will need to develop its depth to move from middle-of-the-pack to a contender to advance to the state meet, but a talented newcomer or two could really shift the trajectory of this team out of New Prairie.

#41 – Center Grove Trojans

Franklin Regional #13

State meet history: 7 appearances (last in 2011), 1 podium finish (2006)

2025 Results:

Shelbyville Sectional: 1st place (67 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 12th place (313 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Gretchen Meisberger (12) - 19:12 (29th place)

Evie Smith (10) - 20:29 (93rd place)

Lexi O’Barr (12) - 20:43 (103rd place)

Lily Hollars (12) - 21:10 (125th place)

Emma Karns (11) - 21:12 (127th place)

2026 Outlook: The Trojans bring back five from a team in the middle of the regional and could finish much higher this season, though they are undoubtedly in the strongest path. Senior Gretchen Meisberger was just short of qualifying for the state meet individually in cross country and had a solid track season, running 5:20 over 1600 meters at the sectional. Junior Emma Karns could be ready for a bigger role as well after showcasing improvement in the spring. CG could also get a big difference-maker as an incoming freshman as well.

#42 – Jasper Wildcats

Crawford County Regional #5

State meet history: 10 appearances (last in 2024)

2025 Results:

Jasper Sectional: 1st place (34 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 7th place (227 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Molly Isaacs (12) - 19:34 (31st place)

Kate Kelly (10) - 19:41 (34th place)

Olivia Reckelhoff (10) - 19:48 (39th place)

Claire Buehler (10) - 22:09 (133rd place)

Reagan King (10) - 22:28 (148th place)

Addison  Seger (12) - 28:40 (243rd place)

2026 Outlook: The Wildcats missed the state meet last fall but look to be in a good position to make it back to Terre Haute with six of last year’s seven returning. Jasper doesn’t have a true frontrunner–the ‘Cats had three returners finish in the 30s at the regional with senior Molly Isaacs sneaking in to the state meet individually–and it doesn’t enjoy great depth. Still, this looks like a team capable of advancing to Terre Haute out of the southern regional, which would be Jasper’s fifth in the last seven years.

#43 – Fort Wayne Snider Panthers

Manchester Regional #7

State meet history: 6 appearances (last in 2005)

2025 Results:

New Haven Sectional: 4th place (113 points)

New Haven Regional: 9th place (298 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Georgia Leininger (10) - 19:27 (26th place)

Razan Musa (10) - 19:38 (36th place)

Maryssa Schaller (11) - 20:27 (61st place)

Seynae Mostella (11) - 23:52 (213th place)

Miranda Eifrid (12) - 26:19 (237th place)

2026 Outlook: The Panthers have an exciting trajectory, though it may be a team closer to a year away. Last year, Snider was led by three freshmen, including two that qualified individually for the state meet. Sophomore Georgia Leininger proved herself capable of being a reliable frontrunner, running 11:00 over 3200 meters in the track season and running under 5:20 for 1600 meters. The Panthers top four certainly form the basis of a team qualifying for the state meet out of Terre Haute. If Snider can solve its depth issue, this could be a team ahead of schedule this fall.

#44 – Batesville Bulldogs

Franklin Regional #12

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

Rushville Sectional: 1st place (34 points)

Shelbyville Regional: 9th place (279 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Shelbyville Regional)

Ava Wade (10) - 18:19 (5th place)

Jayla Bedel (11) - 19:46 (53rd place)

Francesca Myers (10) - 20:49 (106th place)

Caitlin Raver (11) - 20:58 (113th place)

Paige Allgeier (12) - 21:16 (129th place)

2026 Outlook: The Bulldogs have a good foundation returning, led by sophomore Ava Wade who nearly finished All-State in cross country last fall. One of the stronger programs never to have made the state finals in cross country, Batesville looks to be a top contender for another sectional title and could be in the top half of teams at the regional level again. Wade should again provide strong frontrunnning, and junior Jayla Bedel is a reliable number two runner. The ‘Dogs should also get some help from the middle school program.

#45 - Huntington North Vikings

Manchester Regional #8

State meet history: 11 appearances (last in 2015)

2025 Results:

Manchester Sectional: 3rd place (72 points)

New Haven Regional: 8th place (249 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Alice Friesen (12) - 18:47 (12th place)

Addison Winter (10) - 19:38 (34th place)

Brooklyn Esslinger (11) - 20:28 (62nd place)

Libby Couch (12) - 20:34 (65th place)

Olivia Bolinger (10) - 21:39 (121st place)

Evie Graves (12) - 21:55 (132nd place)

Gwen Kiser (12) - 22:16 (147th place)

2026 Outlook: The Vikings have not qualified for the state finals in over a decade, but they look to be in the mix this fall. Huntington boasts two returning individual qualifiers, and senior Alice Friesen will be looking for a fourth appearance in Terre Haute to cap off her high school career. She has finished All-State twice in cross country and just missed the podium in the 3200 this spring, running 10:37 at the state finals. Her frontrunning paired with a talented newcomer or two could put the Vikes right in the mix to advance out of the Manchester Regional.

#46 – West Lafayette Red Devils

Brownsburg Regional #10

State meet history: 18 appearances (last in 2021), 8 podium finishes (last in 2018), 1 runner-up title (2012)

2025 Results:

Harrison (West Lafayette) Sectional: 2nd place (71 points)

Brownsburg Regional: 9th place (286 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Brownsburg Regional)

Natalie Cuttell (12) - 18:52 (28th place)

Estelle Seymour (12) - 20:20 (92nd place)

Kaia Ursem (12) - 20:44 (111th place)

Emily Zhou (10) - 21:17 (138th place)

2026 Outlook: The Red Devils are on a bit of a drought from the state meet since the restructured tournament, and the path doesn’t get any easier this year. Still, this will be a competitive team with four of seven back from last year, including individual state meet qualifier Natalie Cuttell. West Lafayette’s three returners from the tournament behind Cuttell form the base of a competitive team, and the Devils should be able to count on sophomore Erica Rogers who was the team’s number two runner for much of the season before missing the tournament. This doesn’t look like a state meet team, but another top-ten regional finish seems possible.

#47 - Leo Lions

Manchester Regional #9

State meet history: Never qualified

2025 Results:

West Noble Sectional: 2nd place (91 points)

New Haven Regional: 10th place (321 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Haven Regional)

Rowyn Norris (12) - 18:35 (7th place)

Audri Bultemeier (11) - 20:37 (67th place)

Bella Weninger (12) - 20:47 (74th place)

Helena Kortenber (12) - 21:41 (122nd place)

Jaivanie Gould (10) - 22:03 (140th place)

2026 Outlook: The Lions return five of seven from a tenth-place regional team, including frontrunner Rowyn Norris in her senior year. With Norris’ single-digit points at the regional round, making a push for the team’s first ever state meet out of the least treacherous regional is not out of the question. To do that, Leo would likely need a mixture of substantial improvement from its returning line-up and incoming new talent. With that, the Lions could possibly contend for a trip to Terre Haute and without it then Norris is likely qualifying for her fourth individual state appearance in cross country.

#48 – Northridge Raiders

New Prairie Regional #11

State meet history: 26 appearances (last in 2021), 7 podium finishes (last in 2005), 2 runner-up titles (1993, 2002)

2025 Results:

Elkhart Sectional: 3rd place (88 points)

New Prairie Regional: 16th place (415 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the New Prairie Regional)

Brayleigh Adams (10) - 19:33 (24th place)

Rebekah Miller (11) - 21:22 (110th place)

Natalie Gillette (12) - 21:23 (112th place)

Kloey Swathwood (12) - 22:15 (155th place)

Jade Snyder (12) - 22:37 (175th place)

2026 Outlook: The Raiders bring back the majority of a roster that finished in the back half of the regional, and Northridge figures to be more competitive this fall. Sophomore Brayleigh Adams should be a frontrunner for the Raiders; she qualified individually for the state cross country meet last fall and ran some solid races in track where she dipped under 5:30 for 1600 meters. Northridge’s depth doesn’t seem likely to push for advancement out of New Prairie, but the Raiders’ line-up should be bolstered by at least a pair of incoming freshmen, including one that may be able to race with Adams.

#49 – Corydon Central Panthers

Crawford County Regional #6

State meet history: 2 appearances (last in 2023)

2025 Results:

Crawford County Sectional: 2nd place (60 points)

Mater Dei Regional: 6th place (205 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Mater Dei Regional)

Gilian Delong (10) - 19:41 (35th place)

Ella Taylor (11) - 19:50 (41st place)

Rachel Rowan (10) - 20:04 (48th place)

Abby Helms (10) - 21:35 (101st place)

Cara Broom (12) - 21:57 (126th place)

Evelyn Sevilla (11) - 22:06 (132nd place)

2026 Outlook: The Panthers have been consistently competitive the last few years, and that seems likely to continue this season. Corydon made its only two state meets in consecutive seasons then has missed the last two years. The roster coming back is close in terms of placement to make it to Terre Haute, though incoming freshmen will certainly throw a wrench into those projections; the Panthers should get one newcomer that will help with scoring, perhaps substantially, this fall.

#50 – Pendleton Heights Arabians

Franklin Regional #14

State meet history: 6 appearances (last in 2016)

2025 Results:

Noblesville Sectional: 8th place place (204 points)

Returning Runners: (Based on results from the Noblesville Sectional)

Anya Zoeller (11) - 17:47 (1st place)

Sadie Rauh (11) - 21:42 (44th place)

Emerson Tetrault (11) - 23:40 (53rd place)

Adalyn Eichhorn (10) - 24:20 (58th place)

Josephine Bell (11) - 24:26 (59th place)

Leni Rauh (11) - 24:27 (60th place)

2026 Outlook: This may be a bit of an overrating, given the Arabians’ returners, but Pendleton has a lot of security at the top of its lineup with the junior Zoeller who has been at the very top of the state since starting high school. Pendleton certainly does have some returning difference makers; senior Maddie Marsh was competitive but missed the tournament last fall while junior Sadie Rauh had a solid track season, qualifying for the regional in the 1600. While the Arabians absolutely could have one of the 50 best teams in Indiana, advancing from the most competitive sectional in the state will be challenging.
